Ne-Yo’s Divorce is Finalized, Details on Child Support Amounts and More
Singer Ne-Yo and his wife, Crystal Renay, have officially parted ways. On February 2, 2023, TMZ announced that the couple’s divorce had been finalized (1). Renay reportedly filed for divorce back in August 2022 over claims that her husband had “fathered a child with another woman.” Ne-Yo has two children with his ex-fiancé Monyetta Shaw and three with Renay.
Although the claims have not yet been substantiated, Renay is suggesting that the singer is having another baby with a social media influencer who goes by the name Sade, reports Hot 97 (2). Sade is currently pregnant but it isn’t clear whether the baby belongs to Ne-Yo.
How much does Ne-Yo pay for child support?
Considering all of the assets involved in Ne-Yo’s divorce, the matter seemed to have been resolved rather quickly compared to other high-net-worth divorces. Not only is Ne-Yo paying Renay a lump sum of $1.6 million “to balance out the division of their real estate holdings,” reports TMZ, but he’ll also pay her $20,000 in moving expenses.
TMZ also noted that Ne-Yo would maintain ownership over three of the couple’s four Georgia homes, leaving Renay with one. She’ll also receive $150,000 to buy a new car as Ne-Yo will reportedly be keeping their 2022 Bentley Bentayga.
In addition to paying Renay funds to move and buy a new vehicle, Ne-Yo will also have to pay her $12,000 a month in child support. The media outlet also stated that the singer has agreed to cover his kids’ school expenses and pay Renay $5,000 a month in alimony. The alimony payments are only expected to last three years.
How are child support amounts determined in Alabama?
Child support amounts can either be determined by the divorcing parties or the court. Of course, if the divorcing parties are able to agree on an amount, they must have a written agreement that states their reasonings for the amounts chosen. If the court is tasked with establishing a child support agreement, it will take into account custody and income.
In addition to child support, a parent might also be required to cover some or all of their child’s schooling expenses, insurance, etc.
